Ahead of the second match of the Test series against England, India's young pacer Harshit Rana has been released from the squad. As per the Times of India report, the young speedster, who was called up as a precautionary measure, was not seen getting on the bus to Birmingham with the other members of his team. Around 11:30 AM local time, the Indian team left Leeds by bus, and it should be in Birmingham in a little more than three hours.
The players will take the next two days off before starting training again in preparation for the second Test, where they want to even the series and move past Headingley's setback.
"I haven't spoken to the chairman selector; I will speak to the chairman of selectors because there was a bit of a niggle in the group. That is why we wanted him as a backup. But at the moment, everything looks fine, so if everyone is fine, he would have to fly back,” Gambhir had said on Rana after the first Test.
Despite scoring 835 runs and five individual hundreds, India's defeat at Headingley has garnered attention due of its peculiarity. Despite achieving five hundred in the match, it was the first time in Test history that a team lost.
Ben Duckett's explosive 149 set the tone for the record chase, which was bolstered by powerful knocks from Crawley and Root. The 1673 combined runs between the two teams marked the highest ever in a Test between India and England. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant (twice) all raised their bats, but England pulled off a stunning chase of 371 on the final day, winning by five wickets.
